Healthy Aging

Spring is in the air. And with it comes renewed inspiration for many.
“My inspiration is to see October become the Healthy Aging Month in Busselton,” said Doctor Lee.
A similar concept was adopted in America over twenty years ago with October being the month to focus on those aged 50-plus.
“Because we don’t have a dedicated month to promote and celebrate healthy aging, few Australians are aware free health checks are available for those aged 40 to 49.”
Similar to the American system, the free health checks doctors in Australia can offer identify ways to improve a patient’s physical, mental, and social well being.
Perhaps part of the issue is that the positive aspects of growing older are rarely publicised.
“I believe it is never too late to reinvent yourself, find a new career, a new sport, passion or hobby.”
Doctor Lee’s top 10 Healthy Aging tips include: — 1. Don’t act your age. (Think of yourself as 40.) 2. Be positive in your conversations and your actions every day. 3. Ditch downer friends. (Surround yourself with positive, energetic people.) 4. Walk like a vibrant, healthy person. 5. Stand up straight (and knock years off your appearance.) 6. Wear your smile all day. 7. If you’re lonely - do something about it. (Pick up the phone, volunteer, or take a class.) 8. Start walking. (Not only for your health but to see your neighbours. Take the dog too.) 9. Find your inner artist. (Try art or music to express a new you.) 10. Get regular health checks.
“Everyone should make October their annual checkup month. Who doesn’t want vibrant summers days filled with activity, laughter, friends, family, and good health?”
