Unwanted medicine

May 24, 2021

Approximately 5,000 children each year end up in hospital after taking medication found in their home.

Around 80-percent of people don’t know how safely dispose of unwanted medicine.

According to Toni Riley from the Return Unwanted Medicines Project, incorrect disposal of unwanted medications can see them end up in waterways, landfill or worse.

Approximately 5,000 children each year end up in hospital after taking medication found in their home.

Pet owners too need to ensure unwanted medicines are kept out of reach of their fury friends.

Dispose of unwanted medicines responsibly by:

  1. Read: Read labels of all medicines to check expiry dates.
  2. Remove: If expired or no longer needed, place unwanted medicines in a bag.
  3. Return: Take your bag of unwanted medicines to your local pharmacy, which will dispose of them safely.
